Ze hebben snowy bruut vermoord. In tweeën gekliefd. Het is verschrikkelijk.

Dit was hij gister. Als de sneeuw vanmiddag weer plakt zullen we een nieuwe maken. Nog groter. En ditmaal in de achtertuin, veilig voor de sneeuwpopkiller.

De hele ochtend bezig geweest om naar mijn werk te gaan.

Om kwart over 7 stond ik buiten om de auto uit te graven.
Dat ging op zich goed,net als de rit naar mijn werk. De hoeveelheid ijs op de weg in Houten was wel wat minder, maar dat zal in de loop van de dag wel minder worden.

Alleen die parkeerplaats op het werk. Prachtig maagdelijke sneeuw van een centimeter of dertig diep. Maagdelijke sneeuw op die plekken na waar een auto had gereden en nu vast stond. Ze kon niet  naar voren en niet naar achteren. We zijn drie kwartier bezig geweest om de auto weer vrij te maken en hebben toen besloten dat dit niet te doen was. Zelfs al zouden we de auto's in een parkeervak krijgen, dan zouden we ze er nooit meer uit krijgen. En vanmiddag gaat het weer sneeuwen.

Ik ben dus maar weer omgekeerd en ben nu net weer thuis. Vandaag werk ik wel vanaf hier.
Ik heb ook direct een inlog aangevraagd voor onze Citrix server. Als dat  werkt heb ik ook thuis de beschikking over alle software waar ik op het werk ook mee kan werken.

Voorlopig doe ik het wel met de webmail en de FTP van het werk.

Since that first Drachenfest in 2002 I have played a fair gallery of characters, many of which I have played during years and years. What follows here are both my current characters and my heroes of old, long since retired or fallen in one battle or another. Pictures are courtesy of aroka, athiel_draaick, josianne, janestarz and a few unknown people - many older photogalleries have dissapeared including the credits. A few of these are quite old and actually scanned... no digital pics of those characters ;-)

Vanaf haar eerste aanraking voelde ik me smelten. Haar streling over mijn lichaam zorgde voor een soort eindeloos genot waarvan ik me maar niet voor kon stellen dat ik hier ooit genoeg van zou krijgen. Ik voelde hoe haar warmte me langzaam en voorzichtig in haar armen nam. Een warme greep waar ik nooit uit wilde ontsnappen.

Ja na een dagje Winterefteling waarbij het s'morgens en s'avonds rond de -10 graden was is er niets beters dan een warme douche. Ok misschien een bad, maar ja dat heb ik niet.
Het was verdomde koud afgelopen zaterdag toen we richting kaatsheuvel vertrokken maar we hadden erg veel geluk. Het was er echt prachtig dankzij de gevallen sneeuw de dagen ervoor.
We hebben ons net als vorig jaar extreem goed vermaakt met veel meligheid en gezelligheid. En natuurlijk een broodje worst met muts en een warme choco in een grote efteling mok (nummer 3 in de verzameling)
Vooral s'avonds kwam de Anton Piek sfeer goed naar voren. De gezellig versierde pleintjes met kampvuren zorgden in het donker voor een heerlijk romantische sfeer. Ook het sprookjesbos was prachtig verzonken in een winters taffereel. Heel eventjes had je het gevoel dat sprookjes bestaan.
Ja ik heb net als voorgaande jaren erg genoten, alleen deze keer net dat beetje extra door de flinke laag sneeuw.
Volgend jaar weer.

Want een natte neus, is een gezonde neus! Of is dat alleen voor hondjes?
In elk geval, na schandalig te hebben uitgeslapen tot wel 10:30 (wat best wel heel lang is als je gewend bent dat je wekker om 6:00 gaat) rolden we uit bed met een strak schema in het hoofd. Ik zou richting Oegstgeest fietsen om de sleutel die ik nog steeds van het Geldmuseum had eindelijk in te leveren, Gijs moest poppetjes schilderen voor de winkel en we zouden nog wat inkopen doen. Met het openen van de gordijnen ging echter het strakke schema het raam uit.

Sneeuw!

Geen Leidse sneeuw, (das licht aangevroren, spekgladde bruin-zwarte blubber terwijl het miezerregent) maar echte, witte sneeuw. Een hele laag ervan.
Na broek over broek en shirt over shirt te hebben aangetrokken, togen we als michellin mannetjes de straat op. Zo koud was het eigenlijk niet, maar wel mooi...MOOI. Dus zijn we naar Oegstgeest gelopen, of geploegd, want op sommige punten langs de muren kwam de sneeuw tot bijna aan onze knieën!
De sleutel inleveren bleek stiekem erg gezellig. Met koekjes, glühwijn en prachtige verhalen over een Hollandse Graaf die heidenen ging jagen in Polen (De man van het Geldmuseum is Mediëvist)
Twee en een half uur later stonden we pas weer buiten. Op de terugweg bleek er een invasie aan sneeuwpoppen te zijn verrezen (wat wel een beetje angstig was betijds, 20 poppen op een grasveldje, dat zet je toch aan het denken. Wat willen ze?)
Even door het station gelopen, geen enkele trein reed. Ik vrees al voor morgen, er rijden nog steeds geen treinen naar Den Haag HS...hoe ga ik naar mijn werk? Maar ergens is dat ook wel avontuurlijk, kijken waar ik strand. Oke, dat klonk sneuer dan verwacht.

Inmiddels is de Haarlemmerstraat weer vol met Leidse sneeuw, dat nu vrolijk aanvriest tot een mooie egale laag ijs, mooi niet dat ik morgen met de auto ga.

So we've finished watching Hyakko. My first episode review is here.

Ayumi has been able to enter a rather posh highschool! She is a bit shy and thus has real trouble making friends. But she is full of resolve to make a fresh start at her new school and make lots of friends! Except that she is really shy and even gets lost on her first day of school! While wandering around, she meets three other girls who happen to be in the same class and who are also lost.
There's the haughty daughter of a rich industrialist, Tatsuki. She is pretty concerned about appearances and 'proper' behaviour. She is often bothered by the happy-go-lucky behaviour of Torako, who is a bit of a loose cannon. The quartet is rounded out by Suzume, Torako's bosom friend who is immensely strong and not concerned about appearances and modesty at all.

There's not much about this series: it's a series of whimsical stories -- most initiated by the mischief of Torako. All the stories (most of which span half an episode) have something about a tiger ('Toraya') in them. There's Torako who punches their homeroom teacher in the face, or the time she decides to change the hair styles of the people around her, or when Torako is made a member of the Public Morals committee and has to check the outfits of the students against the dress code.
( There's a plot, but it doesn't go too deep. )

The whole thing is pretty nice but won't last for the ages. The series is attractive but nothing too special. Just a nice, short series to watch if you're not in the mood for too much thinking. The voice acting is nice too, with a special mention of Suzume's quiet voice.

Good points:
- Looks pretty okay;
- Funny;
- Lighthearted.
Bad points:
- The plot doesn't dig too deep.

All in all, good in what it aims to be. I'll give it a 7 for that: slightly above average, but nothing much special.

It's progressing nicely, if I may say so myself. Last week's bad news can't stop me from making this manuscript all shiny and perfect. I've had another little fight with Word, something about spaces, haven't been able to fix it yet. But the content, the language, the story makes me happy. I have identified a problem somewhere in the ending, and I'll fix when I get there. Right now I'm polishing the relationship between Jareth and the Countess, and the way Jareth gets along with Topaz. When I'm stuck, I just drift back to the roleplay session a few weeks ago, and the faces of my gracious players just make the story happen again before my eyes. I miss you guys... And the wonderful evening you granted me has not been for nothing, I assure you.

Anyway... I don't have the patience yet to work on a real synopsis and a cover letter, that will have to wait until after the holidays when I've calmed down a bit. First I'll have to call my editor and have that talk... And there is just no way to put it nicely...

On the menu this week: Tonight is Weekend Heroes. I hope Remco gets home in time... Tomorrow: a day of Legend of the Five Rings roleplay, and possibly another evening on Tuesday. We will spend Christmas Day with Remco's parents, Saturday we will have to ourselves, and on Sunday we'll be with my parents and my brother and his wife in our old town.

Omdat groter worden vanzelf gaat maar opgroeien optioneel is heb ik net lekker buiten een grote sneeuwpop gemaakt. Kas hielp me uiteindelijk wel mee, maar zonder mij was hij er niet gekomen. Hihi. We hebben de grootste van de straat, maar als het buurmeisje hem ziet duurt dat niet lang denk ik. Maar misschien is ze te druk met de oude slee van de jongens die we haar gegeven hebben.

Het meel voor de oliebollen staat te rijzen. Njomnjom.

Happy birthday, vleeg!

Our D&D session of today was cancelled. This means we have to prepare and freeze copious amounts of curly kale mashpot to be consumed at a later date.

Well, I know many people who own a car can name numerous reasons why snow is not fun. But I love snow, even if I have to stand outside in the cold waiting for a train or bus that won't show up!

However.

I do wish people were to clean at least 'their' part of the sidewalk. It's snowing like crazy here now, but I'll go downstairs and outside to do my part once it stops! I can manage on the slippery, trod snow, but the elderly can't!

And!

Having snow on the ice will seriously insulate the ice. The KNSB (Dutch skating union) says on their website it's frightfully dangerous to go onto the ice. It's far too thin, it doesn't grow when there's snow on it, and you can't see how thick it is.
And I'm a little bored now that I don't have a business to run anymore. Big black hole after stressful period anyone? Yep, that's it.
Ice skating would have been the perfect pastime. I'll bet you a thousand euro I can't get NoKey outside in what he would no doubt call a blizzard. I would like to build a snow-man though.

Poor NoKey, he gets cold so easily.
But yay! Snow!

The cat had been lounging on the window sill (above the radiator, nice and
warm), but he thought it was time for a cuddle. He always goes to ingiechan's desk, because mine is so full of stuff.

I fear there's too little time left to grow our own rabbit in time for the
christmas dinner...

As announced on this Journal, we had a photoshoot in the snow on Thursdaynight. I had hoped to find a lot of big flakes falling softly, drenching the world in cold. Instead, the wind caused the snow to be too tiny to really notice in the photos, the poses hard to maintain ("There's snow being blown into my eyes!") and the weather being overall too cold for people.

NoKey was the only one who got really cold though, because he was the only one not in costume (or maybe despite being the only one not in costume?).

A Shang-hai Surprise from the esteemed House of Chanel...

I have decided that, as the interim collections - both Pre-Fall and Resort - are now becoming more and more important, and widespread amongst the fashion designers of this world, I am going to start featuring my red carpet picks from them both, as well as the Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter Fashion Weeks that I currently look at...
As I discovered, there was an amazingly beautiful quantity of dresses that were absolutely red carpet-worthy, and probably will be chosen before the awards season is finished..
In Part 1, I have included the red carpet dresses from all the designers who had the usual small preview-style collection for Pre-Fall...in the second part, I have taken three designers for whom the title Pre-Fall appears to mean another full-size major collection, and therefore warrant a longer look...
